Frequently asked questions
What is play therapy?
Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based form of therapy designed specifically for children. Just as adults use talk therapy to express their emotions, children use play as their natural language to work through feelings, experiences, and challenges. In play therapy, toys, art, games, and imaginative activities are used intentionally by the therapist to help children express themselves, process difficult experiences, and build healthy coping skills.
As a trained play therapist, I create a safe and supportive environment where your child can explore their inner world at their own pace. I use a range of approaches—including Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy (CBPT), Sand Tray Therapy, and Art-Based Interventions—tailored to meet your child’s developmental needs and emotional goals.

What makes a registered play therapist different?
A Registered Play Therapist (RPT) is a licensed mental health professional who has completed extensive, specialized training in play therapy beyond their graduate degree and clinical license. To earn the RPT credential, therapists must meet rigorous requirements set by the Association for Play Therapy (APT), including advanced coursework, supervised play therapy hours, and demonstrated competence in using play as a therapeutic tool. This designation ensures that your child is working with a therapist who deeply understands how to use developmentally appropriate, evidence-based play interventions to support emotional growth, healing, and resilience.
